At a court held for the County of Southampton on the 12th 1783. I Joshua Wood of the Parish of Nottoway and county of Southampton being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do make make & ordain this my last will and testament in manner & form following; First: I lend my wife Sarah Wood the use of the plantation whereon I now live with the lands adjoining containing One hundred & fifty acres also fifty acres adjoining purchased of Richardson Riggin, also the Land & plantation of Hardin's places contain_ ing One hundred & thirty acres, also four negroes namely Aaron, Hove, Richard of Siak, during her natural life or widowhood Secondly: I give & bequeath unto my Son Benjamin Wood Ten thousand weight of Tobacco due me by bond from John Butts Estate, with the interest due thereon, also I give my said son, one negro Boy named Charles, one feather bed & furniture & Ten pounds current money of Virginia; to him & his heirs for ever Thirdly: I give and bequeath unto my Son Joel Wood the land and plantation I purchased of John Davis lying on the Assamorosoc Swamp in Southampton County containing three hundred & thirty five acres more or less. I also give my said son Joel one feather bed & furniture, one Purse of Ten pounds Value, two Cows & Calves & two Sows & piggs or the Value thereof to Him and his Heirs forever Fourthly: I give & bequeath unto my Son Edward Wood after the death or intermarriage 22 of my wife, all the Lands and plantation lent her as above to him & his heirs for ever. I also give my said Son Edmund one feather bed & furniture, one horse of ten pounds value, two Cows & Calves & two Sows & pigs to him & his heirs for ever Fifthly: It is my will and desire that if either of my Sons should die before they have law_ ful issue or before they arrive at the age of twenty one years, that the Lagacies given such deceased Son, be equally divided between my surviving Sons or their heirs Sixthly: I give unto my Daughter Rebecca Wood, one Negro Girl names Hannah, One feather bed and furniture & thirth pounds current money of Virginia to her and her heirs for ever Seventhly: I give unto my Daughter Mary Wood, one Negro Boy names Roger, One feather bed and furniture & thirth pounds current money of Virginia to her and her heirs for ever Eigthly: I give unto my Daughter Anne Wood, one Negro Boy names Sam, One feather bed and furniture & thirth pounds current money of Virginia to her and her heirs for ever Ninthly: It is my will and desire that if either of my daughters should die before they marry or before hthey arrive to the age of twenty one Years, that then the Legacies given such deceased daughter to be equally divided between my surviving daughters or their heirs, and in case either of the Negros given my said Daughters should die be_ fore the period of their marriage or coming to the age of twenty one & before a settlement and division of my Estate then I desire that fifty pounds current money be given to such daughter I lend all the Remainder of my Estate after my debts and legacies are paid to my wife during her naturali life or widowhood, & aften her death or intermarriage my will & desire is that the Negroes given her, and all the remainder of my Estate of every kind not herein given away be sold to the highest bidder & equally divised, amongst my my six children herein named or their Heirs. And lastly I do hereby constitute & appoint my wife Sarah Wood & my Son Benjamin Wood Executrix & Executor of this any last will & testament, revoking all former Wills by me made, & I desire that no appraisement be made of my Estate. __ In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 26th day of December 1782.--- I mean that may the Bed & furniture, the Horse, Cattle & Sows & pigs given my son Joel shall be paid at their Value. And on the motion of the said Excitors who made oath as the law directo a certificate is granted them for obtaining a probat thereof in due form giving fecurity, Whereupon &c
